Year-end gift

We received year-end gifts from seniors who have graduated from our school. We were all very excited to receive stylish macrobiotic sweets and many baked goods. We enjoyed them deliciously after cleaning up. Although there were some unexpected events this year, such as the spread of coronavirus infection, we were all able to celebrate the end of the year together. In our laboratory, our motto is to be free from preconceived ideas. We will continue to live each day with the spirit of “anything goes” even in our daily lives. Thank you all for your support this year. We look forward to working with you again next year.

Presentation at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Peptide Society of Japan

The 57th Peptide Symposium was held online. Mr. Tagawa, a second-year master student, gave a poster presentation titled “Design and Synthesis of Coactivator Peptides Binding to the Female Hormone Receptor and the Nuclear Receptor Nurr1”. We will do many more experiments to respond to the advice we received during the online presentation time!

Presentation at the 93rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society

The 93rd Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society was held online. Dr. Matsushima gave a lecture on “Activators and Inhibitors of Estrogen Receptors Newly Discovered from Toxic Environmental Chemicals” at “Attack Biochemistry with Taylor-Made Proteins and Peptides: Understanding and Developing Biomolecular Responses” organized by Prof. Hutaki of Kyoto University and Prof. Sakaguchi of Hokkaido University. He gave a lecture on “Activators and Inhibitors of Estrogen Receptors Newly Discovered from Toxic Environmental Chemicals. In addition, second-year master’s students Mr.Tagawa and Mr.Iwamoto gave poster presentations. We were nervous because it was the first time to hold the conference online, but we were able to receive valuable advice from the chairpersons. We will do our best to make the most of it for my future research.

Mid-year gift

We received gifts from our graduating seniors. Dr. Matsushima, who loves sweets, was delighted to eat a baumkuchen. What we thought was wine turned out to be fine grape juice. We are not allowed to drink alcohol in the lab, so we appreciated the wonderful choice. And we were all delighted to see so many hams! It disappeared into everyone’s stomachs the day after it arrived. It was a new year with many restrictions due to the spread of coronavirus infection. We will work hard together to cherish the various milestones while responding as flexibly as young bamboo. We would be very happy to receive your continued support. Thank you very much for your continued support.

A New Year

It is a new school year. This year, two fourth-year students have been assigned to our lab. We will start in May, but we will do our best again this year to publish big research results from our small laboratory. Thank you very much for your cooperation.

The Degree Conferment Ceremony

This year, the degree conferment ceremony (graduation ceremony) was held in a reduced size, and M2 student Yusuke Tada showed us his master’s degree. The format was changed this year and it looked cool. We all look forward to Yusuke Tada’s future activities at the company.

Dr. Ayami Matsushima returned from the Salk Institute

Dr. Matsushima, who has been working with Dr. Ronald Evans at the Salk Institute since June 24, 2019, returned on February 10, 2020. We didn’t know much about him, but he said he had grown a lot in weight and gave us some chocolates as a gift with a smile. We will continue to work hard with Dr. Matsushima, who has surely grown during his research life in the U.S.
