We received year-end gifts.

We received year-end gifts from our graduating seniors. We were all delighted by the wonderful gifts, including an assortment of fashionable macaroons and a high quality ham that we always look forward to. The food was well heated in consideration of the new coronavirus, and the chiffon cake made by Dr. Matsushima was also decorated and very delicious. We will do our best to cherish the various milestones and work hard together, responding to the ever-changing situation as flexibly as a young bamboo. I would like to thank everyone for their support during this past year.

11. 23-27. 2022

Participated in ICPAC KK 2022.

International Congress of Pure&Applied Chemistry kota kinabalu was held at The Magellan Sutera Resort (Malaysia) and online. Dr. Matsushima gave an invited lecture on “Next-generation bisohenols inhibit coactivator’s binding”. It was very interesting for her to listen to a wide range of research on chemistry, and lecture on protein conformation and self-assembly.

11. 9-11. 2022

Participated in The 95th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society.

The 95th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society was held at the Nagoya Congress Center (Nagoya, Japan). Dr. Matsushima presented “Immunostaining of Estrogen-related Receptor γ-type in Juvenile Mouse Brain.” The conference was held face-to-face for the first time in two years and was very successful with many poster presentations.

11. 6-8. 2022

Participated in The 5th International Symposium on Halogen Bonding (ISXB5).

The 5th International Symposium on Halogen Bonding (ISXB5) was held at Kazusa Akademia Park (Kisarazu, Japan). Dr. Matsushima gave an invited lecture on “Halogen-containing Bisphenols Strongly Bind to Estrogen Receptors”. Researchers from all over the world who study halogen bonding gathered at the conference and had a lively discussion. The next meeting will be held in Croatia in 2024.

10. 26-28. 2022

Participated in The 59th Japanese Peptide Symposium.

The 59th Japanese Peptide Symposium was held at TalkNet Hall Sendai, Sendai, Japan. Ms. Tomoka Ishibashi, a second-year master student, presented a poster entitled “Structural Insight for the different transcriptional properties against the typical estrogen-response element between estrogen receptor alpha and beta”. This conference is held in English. She was nervous about her first poster in English. She was exposed to many researchers’ presentations and was greatly stimulated by them.

9. 8-9. 2022

Participated in The 34th Annual Meeting of the Society for DV-Xα.

The 34th Annual Meeting of the Society for DV-Xα was held at Seijyukan, Ryukoku University (Kyoto, Japan). Ms. Kotone Ito, a first-year master’s student, gave a poster presentation entitled “First-Principles Calculations for the Development of Indicators of Halogen Binding in vivo“. She was nervous during the short presentation, asked many questions and learned a lot during the poster discussion time. And she received an excellent presentation award. Congratulations!

8. 31. 2022.

Schrödinger’s Wednesday(Online Science Café)

Dr. Matsushima gave a talk on “Is it Possible to Make a Drug that Makes You Smarter?” at the online science café Schrödinger’s Wednesday. Science cafes for working people are relatively rare, and she enjoyed talking to participants from various backgrounds.

8. 10. 2022

Semiannual Meeting of Department of Chemistry in the First Semester

Semiannual Meeting of Department of Chemistry, where laboratories in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Kyushu University, presented their latest research results, was held online. From our laboratory, Dr. Matsushima gave a lecture for the general public and high school students on “Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins at Work in the Body” and four first- and second-year master’s students gave a laboratory introduction titled “Signaling Toxicity of Toxic Environmental Chemicals via Nuclear Receptors” for undergraduate students. Many people were interested in our research, and that encourage us to research.

7. 30. 2022

We received mid-year gifts.

We received mid-year gifts from graduating seniors. We were all delighted by the wonderful gifts, which included baumkuchen, assorted cookies, and high quality hams. Although we did not have a dinner with all the members due to the effects of the new coronavirus, each member took home what he or she liked and enjoyed it very much. We will continue to work hard together to cherish the various milestones while responding to the ever-changing situation as flexibly as a young bamboo. We would be very happy to receive your continued support. Thank you very much for your continued support.

7. 2. 2022.

Presented at The 59th Joint Conference of Chemistry-Related Branches in Kyushu.

The 59th Joint Conference of Chemistry-Related Branches in Kyushu was held at the Kitakyushu International Conference Center (Kitakyushu, Japan). Kotone Ito, a first-year master’s student, gave a poster presentation entitled “Systematic Analysis of Halogen Binding in Vivo by Halogen-Containing Ligands” and Kyota Shirane gave a poster presentation entitled “Target Gene Analysis of Estrogen Receptor Type β in the Mouse Brain”. It was a valuable experience for them to attend their first conference held face-to-face.

6. 18. 2022

Presented at the regular meeting of the Japanese Biochemical Society, Kyushu Branch.

This year’s meeting of the Kyushu Branch of the Japanese Biochemical Society was also held online. Mari Hosose, a second-year master’s student, gave a presentation titled “Expression Changes of Nervous System Genes in the Brains of Embryonic Mice Exposed to Endocrine Disrupting Substances”. She learned a lot from the questions and advice she received from many professors. She will do her best to make the most of this experience in her future research.

6. 14-16. 2022

Presented at the Joint Conference on Environmental Chemicals.

30th Symposium on Environmental Chemistry, 26th The Japanese Society of Environmental Toxicology Annual Meeting and 24th Japan Society of Endocrine Disruptors Research Annual Meeting were held at the Toyama International Conference Center (Toyama City, Japan) as the Joint Conference on Environmental Chemicals. Kyota Shirane, a first-year master’s student, gave a poster presentation titled “Effect Analysis of New Generation Bisphenol Binding to Estrogen Receptors Using Neural Model Cells”. Over the three days, he participated in many symposiums and poster discussions, making it a very productive conference.
