The results were published in the Asahi Shimbun on September 6, 2019. Bisphenol A is a known endocrine disruptor. We have discovered for the first time that tricyclic bisphenol A, which is similar to it, inhibits the activity of the female hormone estrogen.

Special Colloquium in the first semester of 2019

In the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Kyushu University, each laboratory introduces their latest research results to students in the department as a “Special Colloquium”. This year, Mr. Iwamoto, representing our laboratory, gave an oral presentation on “Effects of Halogenated Bisphenols on Nuclear Receptors Expressed in the Cranial Nervous System”. Everyone in the department was interested in the presentation. Encouraged by this, we will work hard on our research.

Presentation at the 56th Joint Meeting of Chemistry-Related Branches in Kyushu

The 56th Joint Meeting of Chemistry-Related Chapters in Kyushu was held at the Kitakyushu International Conference Center (Kitakyushu, Japan). From our laboratory, Mr. Tagawa, a first-year master student, presented a poster entitled “Interaction Analysis of Estrogen Receptors and Estrogen-related Receptors Endogenous to Cultured Cells” and Mr. Iwamoto presented a poster entitled “Changes in Brain Neuropeptide Gene Expression Levels due to Exposure to Toxic Environmental Chemical Substances”. It was very stimulating to hear so many presentations related to chemistry. We will do our best to win a poster award next time.

The 2019 annual meeting of the Kyushu Branch of the Japanese Biochemical Society was held at the Bunkyo Campus of Nagasaki University (Nagasaki, Japan). From our laboratory, Mr. Tagawa, a first-year master’s student, gave a poster presentation entitled “Interaction Analysis of Estrogen Receptors and Estrogen-related Receptors by Proximity Ligation Assay” and Mr. Iwamoto gave a poster presentation entitled “Analysis of Expression Variation of Nuclear Receptor Nurr1 and Estrogen-related Receptor Gamma Type in Neurons”. It was their first time to present at an academic conference and they was very nervous. And they learned a lot from the questions and advice they received from many professors. They will do their best to make the most of this experience in their future research.
